Having a Bernese Mountain dog means to begin an experience that
doesn't have equal: it is a patient and affectionate friend, always
available but not intrusive, cheerful but never exaggerated. The
Bernese Mountain dog, despite his massive structure, knows how to
instinctively be a polite, intelligent and rapid dog in to learn
the habits of his master as well as the essential commands for a
correct behavior in public and in the house. It needs space but
also in an apartment (with the correct devotion from his master)
he knows how to be a good companion. Its relationship with the children,
makes the Bernese mountain dog one of the ideal races.

Its patience with children that throw the ears or the tail is almost
legendary. He becomes for many children something like a "four
legs baby sitter" that at times arouses tenderness for the
thousand "attentions" that receives from the children
without obiections. Male or female it doesn't do difference for
those that are the principal characteristics of the race. As for
all the dogs the male is more independent while the female manifests
a greater devotion towards her master. However a thing is sure:
the Bernese mountain dog is an extraordinary dog and who chooses
him, will hardly look for another race.
